Under leadership from the Ktunaxa Nation Council, the Akisqnuk First Nation is actively involved in government-to-government treaty negotiations with the Canadian Federal and British Columbia Provincial administrations.  

When a treaty is signed the Akisqnuk First Nation, as a member of the Ktunaxa Nation, will be self-governing with a constitution, taxation authority and the responsibility to provide services to its members independent of the federal and provincial governments.
